Saint of the Day: Saint Frances of Rome

Saint Frances of Rome was a devoted wife, loving mother, and woman of deep prayer who lived in Rome during the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Born into a noble family in 1384, Frances felt drawn to religious life from a young age. However, in obedience to her parents, she married a Roman nobleman and embraced her vocation to family life with faith and generosity.

Despite the comforts of her noble status, Frances lived simply and dedicated herself to serving the poor, the sick, and those suffering from famine and war. During difficult times in Rome, she turned her home into a place of refuge for those in need.

After the death of her husband, Frances gathered other women who desired to live a life of prayer and service. Together they formed a religious community known as the Oblates of Saint Benedict, combining active charity with deep spiritual devotion.

Saint Frances was known for her humility, wisdom, and mystical experiences. Throughout her life, she remained faithful to God while fulfilling her duties as a wife, mother, and servant of the poor.

Her life reminds us that holiness can be lived in everyday family life through prayer, charity, and trust in God.
