Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) was one of the greatest theologians and philosophers in the history of the Church. Born into a noble family in Italy, he chose the Dominican Order against his family’s wishes, dedicating his life to prayer, study, and teaching.
Known for his brilliant mind and deep humility, Saint Thomas sought to unite faith and reason, showing that truth discovered through human intellect never contradicts divine revelation. His most famous work, the Summa Theologiae, continues to guide Catholic teaching and theological study.
Despite his intellectual achievements, Saint Thomas lived a life of simplicity and holiness. Near the end of his life, after a profound mystical experience, he said that all he had written seemed “like straw” compared to the glory of God.
Saint Thomas Aquinas reminds us that true wisdom leads us to humility and love of God.
