Saint Angela Merici (1474–1540) was an Italian virgin and the founder of the Company of Saint Ursula (the Ursulines), devoted to the Christian education of girls and young women. Living at a time when such education was rare, Angela believed that forming young hearts in faith was essential for the renewal of society.
Orphaned at a young age, Saint Angela dedicated her life to prayer, service to the poor, and spiritual guidance. Rather than entering a traditional convent, she gathered women who lived in the world while committing themselves to God, a new and courageous form of consecrated life at the time.
Known for her wisdom, gentleness, and deep trust in God, Saint Angela taught that holiness is possible in everyday life through love, humility, and faithfulness.
