Catholic Prayer for January 27, 2026

January 27 in the Catholic liturgical calendar is an Optional Memorial of Saint Angela Merici, Virgin. She (1474–1540) was an Italian laywoman who founded the Company of St. Ursula (the Ursulines) in 1535—the first religious order dedicated specifically to the education of girls and young women.

She emphasized charity, prudence, and devotion to the Church, living a life of deep prayer while serving the poor and educating in faith.

Opening prayer from the Roman Missal

May the Virgin Saint Angela
never fail to commend us to your compassion, O Lord,
that, following the lessons of her charity and prudence,
we may do what is pleasing to you
and receive from you the reward you promise.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
