Saint Francis de Sales (1567–1622) was a bishop, spiritual writer, and gentle shepherd of souls. Living during a time of religious division in Europe, he devoted his life to bringing people back to the Catholic faith through patience, kindness, and clear teaching rather than force or argument.
As Bishop of Geneva, Saint Francis tirelessly preached, wrote letters, and guided souls toward holiness. His most famous works, Introduction to the Devout Life and Treatise on the Love of God, teach that holiness is not only for priests and religious, but for everyone, in every state of life.
Known for his gentleness and humility, Saint Francis de Sales showed that love and charity are the strongest paths to conversion. He is honored as a Doctor of the Church and the patron saint of writers, journalists, and the Catholic press.
