Thursday of the First Week in Ordinary Time – Commemoration of St. Paul the First Hermit & Desert Fathers
Lord Jesus Christ,
You who stretched out Your hand to touch and heal the leper, saying, “I do will it. Be made clean,” look with compassion upon us this day.
In the quiet of this ordinary time, we come before You like the desert hermits — St. Paul of Thebes, who fled the world to find You in solitude, and St. Macarius, who sought purity of heart in the wilderness. Teach us to detach from distractions, to embrace silence, and to trust in Your providential care as they did.
Cleanse us, Lord, from the leprosy of sin that isolates us from You and others. Touch our hearts with Your healing mercy, renew our faith, and fill us with the courage to proclaim Your love boldly, as the healed leper could not remain silent.
Through the intercession of St. Paul the First Hermit, who lived 113 years sustained by Your grace alone, grant us perseverance in prayer and detachment from worldly cares. May we, like him, find our true home in You.
We ask this through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.St. Paul the First Hermit, pray for us!
St. Macarius the Great, pray for us!
Jesus, Healer and Savior, have mercy on us.
