Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Scripture from Daniel:
“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel.” (Daniel 1:8-9)
Meditation – Standing Firm in Commitment
On Day 2, we see Daniel’s bold decision in action. Exiled in Babylon, surrounded by luxury and pressure to conform, Daniel “resolved” (or “purposed in his heart”) to remain faithful to God’s laws. He didn’t just avoid defilement—he actively sought permission and trusted God for the outcome. God honored this resolve by granting favor, leading to greater wisdom and influence for Daniel and his friends.
Today, as physical hunger or cravings arise, let this remind us: the fast is about more than food—it’s about refusing to compromise our spiritual purity. In our “foreign land” of daily temptations, distractions, and worldly influences, we purpose our hearts to seek God first. He grants favor, compassion, and breakthroughs to those who trust Him fully.
Prayer Focus: Lord, like Daniel, help me resolve today to honor You above all. Give me courage to say no to what defiles and yes to Your will. Fill my emptiness with Your presence and grant favor in my circumstances. Amen.
Say 1 Our Father… 1 Hail Mary… Glory Be…
Lord, strengthen our resolve!
