The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced Wednesday that public sessions for its 2025 Fall Plenary Assembly, which runs Nov. 10-13, will be livestreamed Nov. 11 and 12.
The gathering takes place in Washington, D.C., and opens under the leadership of Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Military Services, USA, and outgoing USCCB president. He will deliver his final address in that role, followed by remarks from Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the papal nuncio to the U.S.
One of the first items on the agenda will be the election of the next USCCB president and vice president, as CatholicVote previously reported. These terms will take effect when the assembly ends. The bishops will also elect chairmen for six USCCB committees.
While many sessions are private, the public agenda signals the U.S. Church’s priorities going into 2026. Topics include:
- A discussion of the evolving situation of migrants and refugees in the U.S. and abroad
- A proposed vote to consecrate the U.S. to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 12, 2026, to accompany the nation’s 250th anniversary
- An update from the Subcommittee on the Catechism regarding the Catechetical Accompaniment Process
- A vote on the USCCB’s budget for 2026
- Reports on the National Eucharistic Revival initiative and a vote on scheduling the next National Eucharistic Congress for summer 2029
- A revision and vote on a new text of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services
- Consideration of liturgical‑text action items from the Committee on Divine Worship.
- A public presentation on artificial intelligence — its ethical implications, impact on society, and the Church’s life
The bishops will receive updates from The Catholic University of America and the Pontifical Mission Societies USA.
Private executive sessions will include ongoing implementation of the synodal process, discussion of how to live out Laudato Si’, and development of the lay apostolate.
Live coverage will be available on the USCCB website. Social media engagement is encouraged via the hashtag #USCCB25 on platforms such as Instagram (@USCCB), Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, and X.
