Does science prove God’s existence? Authors attempt to answer

The authors of a recently translated book argue that scientific fields — from cosmology and physics to biology and chemistry — offer mounting evidence for belief both in immaterial reality and a creator God.

God, the Science, the Evidence: The Dawn of a Revolution by Michel Yves Bollaré and Olivier Bonnassies, originally released in French in 2021, was published this month in English for the first time. The authors draw on the work of philosophers, 63 Nobel Prize winners, and more than 100 leading scientists.

Bollaré and Bonnassies write that though many people believe science and belief in God are incompatible, recent scientific advancements imply the opposite.

“Thanks to a rapid succession of discoveries — the theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, the Big Bang, the theories of expansion, heat death, and fine-tuning of the Universe — science has surprisingly become an ally to belief in God,” stated an emailed press release from the book’s publisher, Palomar.

The authors also argue that after centuries of rising atheism across the world, humanity is on the cusp of a “Great Reversal” that will bring people back to belief in God.

While the first half of the book draws mainly on recent scientific developments, the second half draws mainly on the work of philosophers. Bollaré and Bonnassies present a number of arguments for the existence of God that do not require recent science to understand.

The original French edition of the book has sold over 400,000 copies, making it the most successful book in Europe about God’s existence in 30 years, according to the release.

John Lennox, an emeritus professor of mathematics at the University of Oxford, hailed the book’s expansive research.

“A very welcome, interesting and easy to read book which argues convincingly that the existence of a creator God, far from being negated by the scientific understanding of the Universe, is rationally supported by it,” Lennox said in the release. “This is a remarkable work with hundreds of references citing leading contemporary scientists.”

As Lennox’s comments indicate, the book is not arguing that distinctively Christian doctrines like the Trinity or the Incarnation could be proven by science. It specifically argues that science supports belief in a God who created the world, like the God professed by Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.

God, the Science, the Evidence: The Dawn of a Revolution is available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook formats.
