Vatican Secretary of State to preside Mass for the first feast of St. Carlo Acutis

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state, will preside over the Mass for the first celebration of the feast of Saint Carlo Acutis at the Church of the Renunciation in Assisi, Italy.

The feast of St. Carlo Acutis, the first Millennial saint — canonized just last month on Sept. 7 by Pope Leo XIV — is celebrated Oct. 12, the day of his death.

A press release sent by the diocese of Assisi to CatholicVote and other media informs that the feast, which falls on a Sunday, will be preceded by a Triduum of activities, that includes the prayer of the Holy Rosary, Mass and Eucharistic Adoration at the Church of the Renunciation, the site where Saint Francis of Assisi renounced his earthly possessions and wealth in front of his father and the bishop. The church also holds the body of St. Carlo Acutis.

“After October 4th (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi), eight days later, we remember and celebrate Saint Carlo Acutis, this young man who, together with Saint Francis and Saint Clare, is an explosion of joy and hope for so many lost people searching for God,” said the Bishop of Assisi, Domenico Sorrentino.

The Triduum started Oct. 9, with a Mass presided over by Father Carlo Chistolini, vice president of the Diocesan Foundation of the Shrine of the Renunciation.

At 6 p.m. Oct. 10, Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo, head of International Relations for the diocese, will celebrate Mass. In the evening, at 9 p.m., a Lectio Divina for young people and adults will be held, led by the vicar general, Father Giovanni Zampa, on the Scripture passage; “If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever” (John 6:51).

On Oct. 11, Father Simone Calvarese, Provincial Minister of the Capuchins of Umbria, where Assisi is located, will celebrate Mass at 6 p.m.

Every day at 5:20 p.m., before the celebrations, a Rosary will be recited.

On Oct. 12, at 11 a.m., Cardinal Pietro Parolin, secretary of state of the Holy See, will preside over the Eucharistic celebration on the liturgical memorial of St. Carlo Acutis.
