At an Oct. 8 White House roundtable discussion on left-wing violence, President Donald Trump said he will designate Antifa as a foreign terrorist organization.
When asked whether he would make the designation, Trump replied, “I’d be glad to do it. I think it’s the kind of thing I’d like to do. Does everybody agree? If you agree, I agree. Let’s get it done. Let’s get it done. Marco, we’ll take care of it.”
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said Antifa’s international links justify the designation.
“There are extensive foreign ties, and I think that would be a very valid step to do,” Miller said.
Earlier in the meeting, Trump condemned what he called an “epidemic of left-wing violence and Antifa-inspired terror” that has escalated “for nearly a decade.” He added that his administration will be “far more threatening to them than they ever were with us, and that includes the people that fund them.”
During the discussion, Seamus Bruner, research director at the Government Accountability Institute, identified major funding networks behind Antifa, naming George Soros’ Open Society Foundation, the Tides Foundation, and foreign donors such as Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss among them.

Bruner also said that more than $100 million in taxpayer funds have flowed through some of the organizations tied to Antifa activity.
The White House invited several conservative journalists who have covered Antifa-related unrest, including conservative commentator Nick Sortor, independent journalist Andy Ngo, and Seattle journalist Brandi Kruse, FOX News reported.
Trump’s announcement builds on a Sept. 25 National Security Presidential Memorandum directing a government-wide crackdown on domestic terrorism and organized political violence, with a focus on groups such as Antifa, CatholicVote reported. The administration also formally classified Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization in a Sept. 22 order.
