The Penitent Actress
Patronage: Actresses, converts, and penitents.
St. Pelagia of Antioch was once a famous actress and dancer, celebrated for her beauty and worldly lifestyle. During the persecution of Christians, she encountered Bishop Nonnus, whose preaching deeply moved her heart. Struck with repentance, she renounced her former life, was baptized, and chose to live in solitude and prayer.
Pelagia moved to Jerusalem, where she lived as a hermit on the Mount of Olives, dedicating the rest of her life to penance and holiness. Her dramatic conversion shows the infinite mercy of God and the power of grace to transform even the most wayward soul.
Prayer
St. Pelagia, you remind us that no one is beyond God’s mercy. Pray for us, that we may turn away from sin and live faithfully in God’s grace. Amen.
