President Donald Trump announced Oct. 3 that Hamas has until 6 p.m. ET Oct. 5 to accept his 20-point Gaza peace proposal or face “all HELL, like no one has ever seen before.”
“We will have PEACE in the Middle East one way or the other,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The violence and bloodshed will stop. RELEASES THE HOSTAGES, ALL OF THEM, INCLUDING THE BODIES OF THOSE THAT ARE DEAD, NOW! An Agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) P.M., Washington, D.C. time. Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas. THERE WILL BE PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.”
Trump unveiled the peace proposal Sept. 29 at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has already endorsed it, CatholicVote reported. Under the plan, Hamas would release all hostages in exchange for Israel’s pledge of a permanent ceasefire and a phased withdrawal from Gaza City.
The agreement also calls for governance of Gaza by a “technocratic, apolitical, Palestinian committee” under a Trump-led “board of peace” and expands humanitarian aid to the region.
Qatar and other Arab nations have pressed Hamas to take the deal, according to Politico.
Pope Leo XIV told reporters Sept. 30 that the plan is a “realistic proposal,” and he too urged Hamas to accept the deal.
