Man who sought to kill Brett Kavanaugh sentenced to 8 years in prison, supervised release

Nicholas John Roske, a 29-year-old California resident who planned to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022, was sentenced Oct. 3 to eight years in federal prison and lifetime supervised release, according to multiple media reports.

WUSA9, CBS’ Washington, D.C., affiliate, reported that U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman, who sentenced Roske, said, “Violence should not be accepted and it should never, ever be normalized.”

The maximum sentence possible was life imprisonment, according to an April U.S. Department of Justice press release announcing that Roske had pleaded guilty. In its aid in sentencing memo, the office had sought at least 30 years to life imprisonment plus lifetime supervised release.

Roske had turned himself in before attempting to kill Kavanaugh. According to an affidavit, two U.S. Deputy Marshals spotted an individual dressed in black get out of a taxi in front of Kavanaugh’s home, look at them, and then walk away.

Roske called 911 and reported where he was, what weapons he had, and that he had come from California and was seeking to harm Kavanaugh and himself, according to WUSA9.
