Trump strikes deal with Pfizer to launch cost-cutting ‘Trump Rx’ site

President Donald Trump on Sept. 30 announced his administration struck a deal with Pfizer to develop a direct-to-consumer prescription drugs website that will lower costs for U.S. patients.

The site, which Pfizer identified in a statement as TrumpRx.gov, is expected to launch in early 2026, Reuters reported

According to a White House fact sheet, the Sept. 30 deal requires Pfizer to provide its medicines to U.S. patients at “most-favored-nation” (MFN) pricing — the same as or lower than prices in other developed countries.

“Pfizer is committing to offer all of their prescription medications to Medicaid, and it will be at the most favored nation’s prices,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “It’s going to have a huge impact on bringing Medicaid costs down like nothing else.”

The White House’s fact sheet explained that Americans currently pay more than triple what other developed nations pay for brand-name drugs.

Examples of the company’s new discounted prices include Xeljanz for rheumatoid arthritis at a 40% discount, Zavzpret for migraines at 50% off, Eucrisa for dermatitis at 80% off, and Duavee for osteoporosis at 85% off.

“This is bypassing middlemen,” Medicare Director Chris Klomp of the Center for Medicare said. “It increases transparency. In many instances, prices are 80% lower than they are today.”

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla also praised the deal during the joint announcement with Trump at the White House, saying “the big winner of this deal, clearly, will be the American patient.”

Bourla added that Americans “are the ones that will see significant impact in their ability to buy medicines. But I would argue that it is not the only winner. I think who else is the winner? Here it is, American innovation and American economy.”

Pfizer also pledged to invest $70 billion in new U.S.-based manufacturing and research investments, the company said in its statement.

The White House has pressed drugmakers for months to align prices with international standards. In a Sept. 30 X post, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that Trump sent letters to several pharmaceutical companies in July, including Pfizer, after signing a May 12 executive order that called for MFN pricing.
