When she refused to marry and renounced all suitors, declaring that she belonged only to Christ, she was arrested during the persecution of Christians.
Saint Agnes remained firm in her faith, choosing death rather than deny her Lord or compromise her purity. She suffered martyrdom at a very young age, becoming one of the most beloved early martyrs of the Church. Her name, which means “pure,” reflects the holiness of her life and her total dedication to God.
