Saint of the Day: Saint Anthony the Great

Saint Anthony the Great (c. 251–356) is known as the Father of Christian Monasticism. Born into a wealthy family in Egypt, he gave away his possessions after hearing the Gospel call to follow Christ completely. He withdrew into the desert, where he lived a life of intense prayer, fasting, and spiritual discipline.

Saint Anthony faced many spiritual trials but overcame them through unwavering faith and trust in God. His holiness attracted followers, and though he sought solitude, he became a guide and spiritual father to many monks. His wisdom, humility, and devotion helped shape the monastic life that continues in the Church today.

Saint Anthony’s life reminds us that true freedom is found in surrendering everything to God and seeking Him above all else.
