Pope Leo XIV in a Dec. 19 address urged the youth of the organization Catholic Action to make peace with somebody in their own lives ahead of Christmas.
Catholic Action, an organization that recently canonized St. Pier Giorgio Frassati participated in, seeks to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church in the public square.
“To make peace is the quintessential ‘Catholic action’,” the Pope said, “because it is the gesture that makes us witnesses of Jesus, the Redeemer of the world.”
As the Pontiff noted, the Nativity scene shows that there is room for everyone in the presence of Our Lord and Christ knocks on each man’s heart.
“When you pray before the Nativity scene, ask to be like those angels who proclaim God’s glory and peace to humankind,” Pope Leo said. “This peace is the commitment of every person of good will, and especially of us Christians, who are called not only to be good, but to become better every day.”
He said that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, teaches Christians that not only is peace an absence of war, but a friendship based in justice. Worldwide peace must begin with peace between individuals.
“Therefore, before the holy night of Christmas, think of someone with whom you would like to make peace,” the Pope remarked. ”It will be a more precious gift than those you can buy in the shops, because peace is a gift that is found, truly, only in the heart.”
