Question: What is schism, and what is heresy?
Answer:
Schism is the refusal to submit to the authority of the Pope or to remain in unity with the Church he governs.
Heresy is the obstinate denial or doubt of a truth that must be believed with divine and Catholic faith.
Both are serious sins against the unity and truth of the Church that Christ founded.
Scripture:
“I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine you have been taught; avoid them.” — Romans 16:17
Reflection:
Lord, keep me faithful to the truth of Your Church and in full unity with the successor of Saint Peter.
