Saint of the Day: Saint Daniel and Companions, Martyrs

Feast Day: October 10

Biography:
Saint Daniel and his companions—five Franciscan friars and a lay brother—were missionaries who traveled to North Africa in the 13th century to preach the Gospel among the Muslims of Morocco. Filled with zeal for the faith, they fearlessly proclaimed Christ despite knowing the risks.

They were arrested and brought before the local ruler, who demanded that they renounce Christianity. Remaining steadfast, they boldly professed their faith in Jesus Christ and were martyred around the year 1227. Their courage inspired many, including Saint Francis of Assisi, who rejoiced in their heroic witness.

Prayer:

Almighty God,
You gave Saint Daniel and his companions the strength to witness to Christ even unto death.
Grant us the same courage to live our faith with love and conviction every day.
Amen.
