Saint Bernadette Soubirous (1844–1879) was a humble young girl from Lourdes, France, chosen by God to witness the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1858. Despite poverty, illness, and intense scrutiny, Bernadette remained simple, honest, and faithful to the truth of what she saw.
After the apparitions, Bernadette lived a hidden life as a religious sister with the Sisters of Charity in Nevers. She accepted suffering with patience and deep trust in God, often saying, “I am not here to make you believe, but to tell you.”
Saint Bernadette is remembered for her humility, obedience, and unwavering faith. Through her, God showed that He works great wonders through the lowly and the pure of heart.
She is the patron saint of the sick, the poor, and those ridiculed for their faith.

Saint Bernadette’s body was found incorrupt decades after her death, a sign many associate with her holiness and life of purity.
