Newman Guide expands to offer ‘seamless path’ of Catholic education from kindergarten to grad school

The Cardinal Newman Society this month announced its new edition of the Newman Guide will now include recommendations for the earliest and latest stages of formal education, enabling Catholic families to find “a seamless path of Catholic education from kindergarten through graduate school.”

“For the first time, The Newman Guide is recommending elementary schools, secondary schools, and graduate programs in addition to colleges,” according to a Jan. 20 press release from the organization.

The Newman Guide has long been a popular asset used by Catholic parents looking to choose education options that support rather than undermine their students’ faith.

As CatholicVote has reported, institutions with storied Catholic reputations have been known in recent decades to adopt policies and practices out of keeping with the teachings of the Church. These changes can sometimes blindside parents, who may have chosen an institution specifically to help their children remain faithful Catholics throughout their years of education.

The Newman Society has worked since 1993 to help families avoid Catholic schools that have strayed from the principles of the faith by pointing to “exemplary Catholic educators and institutions committed to truth and the integral formation of their students,” according to the Newman Society website.

The Newman Guide has helped Catholic families “for nearly two decades,” helping them “navigate the college search and discover faithful colleges that begin with the truth of Christ in all subject matter and form the whole person for God,” the Society’s Jan. 20 release stated.

“With this new edition” of the guide, “families can find a seamless path of faithful Catholic education from kindergarten through graduate school, safely navigating the many educational options available today.”

The new edition for the 2025-2026 school year “recommends 28 elementary and secondary schools, 25 colleges, and 55 graduate programs for faithful Catholic formation,” according to the Society. The Guide is available for purchase in print and the Society also offers it for free in the form of an e-book.

In addition, the recommended schools on the new lists “is growing rapidly, as more schools seek the coveted Newman Guide Recommended seal and join the Newman Guide Network to connect with like-minded families and faithful institutions nationwide.”

Schools can only earn the institution’s recommendation after “a thorough review for compliance with Newman Guide policy and curriculum standards, ensuring fidelity to Catholic teaching and the mission of Catholic education,” the Society explained.
