President Donald Trump praised thousands of pro-life activists gathered in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 23 for the March for Life, describing their efforts as a defense of the “infinite worth and God-given dignity of every human life” and pledging to continue pursuing policies aimed at protecting the unborn and supporting families.
In a recorded message played for marchers at the 53rd annual rally, Trump thanked participants who have traveled “from every corner of the country” for more than five decades to advocate for unborn children. He tied the event to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, saying the Declaration of Independence recognized the right to life as a foundational American principle.
“I want to thank every single one of you who was out on this winter day — a beautiful day, but it’s winter nevertheless — to stand up for the unborn,” Trump said.
Later in the message, he added, “With your help and support, we will continue to fight for the eternal truth that every child is a gift from God.”
Trump also recalled how, in his first term, he became the first sitting president to attend the march in person. He highlighted his role in reshaping the federal judiciary, pointing that his judicial appointments led to the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the nationwide constitutional “right” to abortion.
“I was honored to appoint judges and justices who believed in interpreting the Constitution as written,” he said. “And because of that, the pro-life movement won the greatest victory in its history.”
He told marchers that, with abortion policy now largely determined at the state level, the work of the pro-life movement must continue beyond courtrooms and legislatures.
“This is a battle that must be fought — must be won — not only in the corridors of power, but above all in the hearts and souls of the people,” he said.
The President’s remarks to marchers followed a statement he issued on National Sanctity of Human Life Day, observed annually on Jan. 22, the anniversary of the 1973 Roe decision.
In that statement, Trump described Roe as a “moral and constitutional atrocity” that “silenced the American people and stripped the States of their right to protect the unborn.” He praised the Supreme Court for reversing the decision and said the ruling corrected “decades of left-wing judicial overreach.”
“Thankfully, in June 2022, the United States Supreme Court corrected this disastrous decision,” Trump said, adding that he was “proud to have appointed three of the Associate Justices who delivered this triumphant victory for life, liberty, and American democracy.”
Trump outlined actions he said his administration has taken since returning to office to advance a “culture that unapologetically defends the sanctity of life.” He cited enforcement of the Hyde Amendment, which restricts federal funding for abortion, and the reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy, which limits U.S. funding for overseas organizations that perform or promote abortions.
He also pointed to new family-focused policies, including legislation expanding the child tax credit, increasing access to childcare, making a paid-leave tax credit permanent, and creating federally backed savings accounts for newborn children.
“At every level of the Federal Government, my Administration is boldly advancing policies that protect the most vulnerable among us and promote the growth and success of America’s families,” Trump stated.
In both messages, Trump emphasized adoption and foster care as alternatives to abortion and praised the “heroic leaders, parents, students, and everyday citizens” who advocate for unborn children and women facing unexpected pregnancies.
“As President, I pledge to always be a voice for the voiceless and to never tire in fighting to protect the intrinsic dignity of every child, born and unborn,” Trump said in the Sanctity of Human Life Day statement.
He closed by urging Americans to reflect on what he described as the loss of a generation to abortion, and to continue raising their voices on behalf of those affected.
“I ask every citizen of this great Nation to listen to the sound of silence caused by a generation lost to us,” Trump said, “and then to raise their voices for all affected by abortion, both seen and unseen.”
