Day 4: St. Thomas Aquinas Novena

Meditation & Reflection
On this fourth day, we contemplate St. Thomas Aquinas as one utterly devoted to truth. He was called the “Doctor of Truth” because his entire life and massive works—like the Summa Theologica—were dedicated to seeking, pondering, and proclaiming the truth of God revealed in Scripture, Tradition, and reason.

Thomas did not pursue knowledge for its own sake or for personal glory. He sought truth because he knew that Jesus Christ is the Truth (John 14:6). Every question he asked, every objection he considered, every conclusion he drew was aimed at drawing closer to God and helping others do the same. He spoke the truth in love, humbly submitting his intellect to the light of faith, never afraid to say “I don’t know” when mystery exceeded human grasp, yet boldly defending what God had revealed.

In our own time, when confusion, relativism, and half-truths abound—even within the Church—we need St. Thomas’s intercession more than ever. He teaches us that real love for others includes speaking truth clearly, charitably, and courageously. Truth is not harsh when rooted in love; it is liberating. As Thomas pondered God’s Word day and night, he drew nourishment for his soul and light for his path.

Today, let us examine our hearts:

  • Do I seek truth earnestly in prayer, Scripture, and the teachings of the Church, or do I settle for what is comfortable or popular?
  • When I encounter difficult truths—about sin, virtue, doctrine, or my own life—do I flee, distort, or embrace them with humility?
  • Am I willing to speak truth in love to those around me, especially the young or those searching, as Thomas did through his teaching and writing?

St. Thomas reminds us: truth sets us free (John 8:32), but only when pursued with a pure heart and right intention. May we, like him, grow “in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,” allowing God’s truth to transform us and shine through us for His glory.

Prayer Intention for Day 4
St. Thomas Aquinas, devoted servant of truth, obtain for me a great love of God’s revealed truth. Help me to ponder Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church so as to nourish my soul. Grant me the grace to always seek God’s glory above my own, to act with pure intention, and to speak truth in love amid the challenges of today. Through your intercession, may I grow in humility and wisdom, that one day I may shine like the stars in eternity.

Pray Day 4

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Sweet Jesus, Body and Blood most Holy, be the delight and pleasure of my soul, my strength and salvation in all temptations, my joy and peace in every trial, my light and guide in every word and deed, and my final protector in death. Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.

Amen
