Day 1: St. John Bosco Novena

Meditation & Reflection
On this first day of our novena, we turn our hearts to the childhood and early priesthood of Don Bosco. Even as a poor, fatherless boy in the hills of Becchi, Italy, young John felt a deep, burning love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He would walk miles to attend Mass, and when he could not receive Communion daily (as was the custom then), his soul hungered for the Lord like a child for its mother.

This love was not mere sentiment—it became the fire that fueled his entire mission. He saw in the Eucharist the source of all strength for the young souls he would later gather, protect, and form. Don Bosco once said: “The devotion to the Blessed Sacrament is the queen of all devotions; it is the one that brings most graces.” Today, as we begin this novena, let us ask ourselves:

  • How deeply do I hunger for Jesus in the Eucharist?
  • In the midst of busyness, distractions, or struggles, do I make time to visit Him, to adore Him, to receive Him with reverence?
  • Like Don Bosco, can I allow the Eucharist to transform me into an instrument of love and guidance for others—perhaps for the young people in my life, my family, or those who feel lost?

St. John Bosco teaches us that true love for Christ begins small like a mustard seed but when nourished by prayer and the sacraments, it grows into a mighty tree that shelters many.

On this Day 1, let us plant that seed anew in our hearts. Let us resolve to approach the Eucharist with greater faith and gratitude, trusting that Jesus will use us, as He used Don Bosco, to bring hope to the hopeless and light to the young.

Prayer Intention for Day 1
Lord Jesus, through the intercession of St. John Bosco, kindle in me a fervent love for Your Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Help me to draw strength from You each day, so that I may become a loving guide and friend to those You place in my path, especially the young and vulnerable.

Pray Day 1

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O glorious Saint John Bosco, who in order to lead young people to the feet of the divine Master and to mold them in the light of faith and Christian morality didst heroically sacrifice thyself to the very end of thy life and didst set up a proper religious Institute destined to endure and to bring to the farthest boundaries of the earth thy glorious work, obtain also for us from Our Lord a holy love for young people who are exposed to so many seductions in order that we may generously spend ourselves in supporting them against the snares of the devil, in keeping them safe from the dangers of the world, and in guiding them, pure and holy, in the path that leads to God.

(Mention your request here…)

Amen

Say 1: Our Father…   Say 1: Hail Mary…  Say 1: Glory Be…
