Saint Henry of Uppsala
Saint Henry of Uppsala was a 12th-century bishop and missionary who played a key role in bringing the Catholic faith to Finland. Originally from England, he later became Bishop of Uppsala in Sweden and dedicated his life to evangelization, pastoral care, and strengthening the young Church in Northern Europe.
Saint Henry traveled to Finland to preach the Gospel, instruct the faithful, and establish Christian order rooted in justice and charity. His bold preaching and commitment to Church discipline eventually led to opposition. According to tradition, he was killed while carrying out his pastoral mission, giving his life as a martyr for Christ.
Saint Henry is remembered as a faithful shepherd who did not abandon his mission despite danger. His life reflects the courage required to proclaim the Gospel and the willingness to suffer for truth.
