Prayer of the Day – Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Collect Prayer (from the Roman Missal – First Week in Ordinary Time):
Attend to the pleas of your people with heavenly care, O Lord, we pray, that they may see what must be done and gain strength to do what they have seen. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Key Scripture Reflection – “Speak, Lord, for Your Servant Is Listening” (1 Samuel 3:9-10)
In today’s first reading (1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19-20), young Samuel hears the Lord calling in the night but mistakes it for Eli’s voice. With Eli’s guidance, Samuel finally responds: “Speak, for your servant is listening.” God speaks, and Samuel grows into a great prophet.

The Gospel (Mark 1:29-39) shows Jesus healing Simon’s mother-in-law and many others, then rising early to pray in solitude before continuing His mission of preaching and casting out demons. Jesus models perfect listening to the Father and immediate service to others. Today, amid our daily “noise,” God calls us personally—like Samuel—to listen and respond. In Ordinary Time, we grow by hearing His voice in prayer, Scripture, and the needs around us, then acting with the strength He provides. Let us renew our “Here I am, Lord” and serve with joyful hearts!

Prayer Focus: Loving Father, open our ears to Your voice today. Like Samuel, help us listen attentively; like Jesus, grant us strength to heal, preach, and serve. Through the intercession of Mary, who pondered Your word in her heart, draw us closer to You. Amen.

Say 1 Our Father… 1 Hail Mary… Glory Be…
