Meditation – Steadfast Faith Amid Persecution
On this second day, we reflect on St. Sebastian’s secret life of faith in the Roman court. As a captain in the Praetorian Guard, he lived outwardly as a loyal soldier while secretly ministering to imprisoned Christians—visiting them, encouraging their perseverance, and converting many through his bold witness. Even when discovered, he faced arrows with unshakeable resolve, trusting fully in God’s mercy.
St. Sebastian shows us that true courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the choice to remain faithful when the world opposes us. In our own “persecutions”—whether subtle doubts, worldly pressures, illness, or opposition to our beliefs—let us ask for his grace to encourage others and stand firm, knowing Christ sustains us through every trial.
O St. Sebastian, brave consoler of the persecuted, pray that we may live our faith openly and support our brothers and sisters in Christ!
Day 2
Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Glorious Sebastian, martyr and saint, I call on your strength and courage to help me through this difficult trial. Your faith was so deep, a multitude of arrows could not finish you.
The piercing wounds inflicted for your faith only proved to strengthen your belief. May you intercede for those who are weakened from the effects of disease. I ask for your intercession that I may also survive that which threatens to destroy my beliefs in the mercy of Christ. Amen.
(Mention your request here…)
St. Sebastian, pray for us.
Fearless martyr, intercede for us!
Say 1: Our Father… Say 1: Hail Mary… Say 1: Glory Be…
