Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Collect Prayer (from the Roman Missal):
Almighty ever-living God, who, when Christ had been baptized in the River Jordan and as the Holy Spirit descended upon him, solemnly declared him your beloved Son, grant that your children by adoption, reborn of water and the Holy Spirit, may always be well pleasing to you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Short Reflection – Beloved Children in Christ
In today’s Gospel (Matthew 3:13-17), Jesus, sinless and divine, steps into the waters of the Jordan not for His own cleansing, but to fulfill all righteousness and unite Himself fully with us sinners. As the heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove, and the Father’s voice proclaims: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” This moment echoes our own baptism—we too are claimed as God’s beloved children, anointed by the Spirit, and called to live in a way that pleases Him.Today, let us renew our baptismal promises: to reject sin, to believe in the Gospel, and to walk as sons and daughters of light. May the grace of this feast strengthen us to bring God’s justice and mercy to the world, just as the Servant in Isaiah was sent to open eyes and set captives free.
Closing Prayers:
O Lord, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, help us to live out our baptism faithfully.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
