Saint of the Day: St. Notburga of Eben (c. 1265–1313)

Saint Notburga of Eben (c. 1265–1313)

Saint Notburga was a humble servant from Tyrol, Austria, known for her deep devotion to God and her charity toward the poor. She worked as a cook for a wealthy family but always saved food to give to those in need, often in secret.

She is especially remembered for her strong faith and kindness to the less fortunate, even when it meant sacrificing her own comfort. After her death in 1313, devotion to her spread quickly, and she was canonized in 1862 by Pope Pius IX.

Saint Notburga is the patroness of servants and peasants, and she reminds us that holiness is possible in the ordinary tasks of daily life when done with love and generosity.

Prayer to Saint Notburga

Saint Notburga, you served God with humility and love in your daily work. Teach us to see Christ in others and to share generously with those in need. Pray for us that we may live our lives in service to God and neighbor. Amen.
