Feast Day: September 12
The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary on September 12, honoring the sweet and powerful name of the Mother of God. Just as the name of Jesus is revered, so too is the name of Mary venerated, for it reminds us of her maternal love, her intercession, and her role in salvation history.
This feast was first celebrated in Spain in the 16th century and later extended to the whole Church by Pope Innocent XI after the victory of Christian forces at the Battle of Vienna in 1683, a triumph attributed to Mary’s intercession. The name of Mary has always been a source of comfort, hope, and protection for the faithful.
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux once said: “In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let her name be ever on your lips, ever in your heart.”

Prayer
O Most Holy Name of Mary, your name is a blessing on our lips and a light for our souls. Mother of God and our Mother, protect us from all dangers and lead us ever closer to your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
