Saint of the Day: Saint Nicholas of Tolentino

Feast Day: September 10

Saint Nicholas of Tolentino (1245–1305) was an Italian Augustinian friar known for his deep prayer life, humility, and compassion for souls in purgatory. Born in Sant’Angelo, Italy, he joined the Augustinian order as a young man, dedicating himself to a life of penance, fasting, and service to the poor.

Nicholas became renowned for his preaching and miracles, but he is remembered especially for his devotion to the Holy Souls. He often prayed and offered Mass for those who had died, and tradition tells of souls appearing to him, thanking him for his intercession. Because of this, he is honored as a special patron for the souls in purgatory.

He lived quietly, always pointing others toward Christ, and was canonized in 1446 by Pope Eugene IV. His life is a reminder that holiness is found in fidelity to prayer, sacrifice, and charity in the ordinary moments of life.

Prayer
