Saint of the Day: Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On September 8, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the dawn of salvation history. Though the exact date of her birth is unknown, the feast has been kept since ancient times, reminding us of God’s plan unfolding through Mary, chosen to be the Mother of the Savior.

Mary’s birth brought joy to the world, for through her, Christ would come to bring redemption. Her life was one of humility, obedience, and perfect trust in God. As the new Eve, her “yes” to God’s will opened the way for the Incarnation and the salvation of all humanity.

This feast is not only about Mary’s birth, but about the hope and light that entered the world through her. Just as dawn prepares the coming of the day, so Mary’s birth prepared the coming of Christ, the Light of the World.

 Prayer:
O Blessed Virgin Mary, your birth was the beginning of joy for the world.
Help us to live in faith, humility, and love as you did,
that we may always say “yes” to God’s will.
Pray for us, that Christ may be born anew in our hearts. Amen.
