Patronage: The elderly, the destitute, and the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Short Biography:
Saint Jeanne Jugan (1792–1879) was born in France and devoted her life to caring for the poor and elderly. In a time when many abandoned the aged and infirm, Jeanne opened her heart and home to them, offering shelter, food, and love. Her work grew into the Little Sisters of the Poor, a congregation dedicated to serving the elderly poor with humility and charity. Though she was set aside from leadership in her lifetime, Jeanne accepted it with deep humility, offering her sufferings to Christ. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009.
Prayer
Loving God, You inspired Saint Jeanne Jugan
to see Christ in the faces of the poor and abandoned.
Through her intercession, grant us hearts full of compassion
and the courage to serve others with humility and love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
