She is honored today as the patron saint of the elderly and abandoned.
On August 26, the Church celebrates St. Teresa of Jesus Jornet Ibars (1843–1897), a Spanish religious sister and foundress of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly. She devoted her life to serving the poor, sick, and elderly who had no one to care for them, offering them dignity and love in their final years. Her compassion and tireless service made her a true witness of Christ’s charity.
Prayer
Lord, through the intercession of St. Teresa of Jesus Jornet, inspire us to serve the elderly and forgotten with love, compassion, and respect. May we always see Your face in those who suffer. Amen.
