On August 22, the Church celebrates the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a feast established by Pope Pius XII in 1954. Just a week after the Solemnity of the Assumption, we honor Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, crowned with glory by her Son, Jesus Christ.
This title does not make Mary distant or unreachable. Rather, it shows her closeness to us, for as our Queen and Mother, she intercedes powerfully on our behalf before the throne of God. Her queenship is rooted in her humility and obedience, through which she became the perfect disciple of Christ and the Mother of the Church.
Prayer
O Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, guide us closer to your Son, Jesus. Help us to live in faith, humility, and love, so that one day we may share in the eternal joy of heaven. Amen.
