St. John Kemble was an English Catholic priest during the time of severe persecution in England. For more than 50 years, he faithfully ministered to Catholics in Herefordshire, bringing the sacraments in secret and encouraging perseverance in the faith.
At the age of 80, he was arrested simply for being a Catholic priest. Despite his advanced years, he was condemned to death. Before his martyrdom, he forgave his persecutors and was known for his calmness, courage, and kindness. His final words encouraged Catholics to remain steadfast in their faith.
He is remembered as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1970.
