Saint of the Day: Saint Maximilian Kolbe

Feast Day: August 14
Patronage: Prisoners, the pro-life movement, journalists, families, and those struggling with addiction.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe (1894–1941) was a Polish Franciscan priest known for his deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and his tireless efforts in evangelization through the press and radio. During World War II, he was arrested by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz. In July 1941, when a fellow prisoner was condemned to die, Father Kolbe volunteered to take his place. He endured two weeks of starvation before being killed by lethal injection on August 14. His heroic sacrifice stands as a profound example of Christ-like love and selflessness.

Prayer:
Saint Maximilian Kolbe, teach us to love without counting the cost. Pray for us that we may have courage to serve Christ in all circumstances.
