Saint of the Day: St. Lawrence

Feast Day: August 10

Patronage: Cooks, the poor, deacons, and firefighters.

Saint Lawrence was a 3rd-century deacon of the Church of Rome, serving under Pope Sixtus II. Known for his deep love for the poor, he distributed the Church’s treasures to those in need. When ordered by Roman authorities to surrender the Church’s wealth, he famously presented the poor and the sick, declaring, “These are the treasures of the Church.” Lawrence was martyred in 258 AD, enduring death on a gridiron. His courage, charity, and joyful faith have made him one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic Church.
