Feast Day: July 2
Celebrates: Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth
Short Reflection:
Today we honor the Visitation, when Mary, newly bearing our Savior, traveled to the hill country of Judah to bring comfort to her relative Elizabeth (Luke 1:39–56). In their meeting, both women recognized God’s work: Elizabeth’s unborn John leapt for joy, and Mary proclaimed her famous Magnificat, praising God’s mercy and justice.
Why It Matters:
- Humility & Service: Mary hurried to help Elizabeth, teaching us to serve others in need.
- Joy in God’s Plan: Both women rejoiced in God’s promises, reminding us to trust and praise Him.
- Proclamation of Mercy: Mary’s song invites us to see God’s saving work in humble lives.
Prayer
O Blessed Virgin,
in your generosity you brought hope and joy to Elizabeth.
Teach us to be attentive to others’ needs,
to rejoice always in God’s mercy,
and to proclaim His greatness wherever we go.
Amen.
