CV NEWS FEED // A national pro-life organization is celebrating the April 5 passage of a U.S. Senate budget resolution permitting the drafting of a reconciliation bill that could end taxpayer funding of abortion if the House passes the resolution.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America announced in a news release that the budget reconciliation process provides Congress with the opportunity to mandate that public funds cannot go to the abortion industry.
“For far too long, the government has forced taxpayers to subsidize Big Abortion — an industry that harms women and girls, ends babies’ lives and is a terrible investment for taxpayers. Enough is enough,” Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, stated.
According to CBS News, the new budget resolution was almost unanimously supported by Senate Republicans and focuses on border security, the U.S. economy, national defense, and taxes. After debate in the Senate last weekend, it passed 51-48. It now heads to the House of Representatives for another vote.
Along with other high-ranking GOP politicians, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent approved of the resolution, CBS News added.
“By advancing this budget resolution, the Senate sends a strong signal to every small business and every working family: President Trump’s economic agenda will provide long-term tax certainty,” Bessent said. “I look forward to working with House leadership to finish this crucial first step and unlock legislation that strengthens our economic and fiscal foundations.”
Dannenfelser applauded Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senior U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, and Republican senators for pushing for the resolution.
“We look forward to seeing our tax dollars applied to authentic health care instead of lining the pockets of the profit-driven abortion industry that harms women and kills our most vulnerable,” she stated in the news release.
According to SBA Pro-Life America, more than 150 pro-life organizations across the country recently sent Congress a letter asking politicians to defund Planned Parenthood in the new budget reconciliation.
“In November, the American people gave a mandate — it is time for change in Washington,” the letter states in part. “Since then, the White House is taking swift action to stop the Biden abortion agenda and cut government waste. A Republican trifecta presents the opportunity to bolster these efforts by cutting funding for Big Abortion, including Planned Parenthood, through budget reconciliation.”
