CV NEWS FEED // Police arrested a man who threatened to “butcher” members of a Memphis Tennessee parish on March 21.
Hoodline reported that police arrived at St. Louis Catholic Church and spoke to the two victims, the church’s pastor and music director. Zachary Liberto, a local man who lives at a homeless encampment, had gotten in a verbal altercation with the victims and then defaced the baptismal font.
He also sent an email to one of the victims that stated, “I need a video of [complainant] getting slapped by you in 24 hours before I butcher people in that church with a machete.”
The victims stated that Liberto has been known to carry a machete.
A parishioner also recorded a threatening phone conversation with Liberto, in which he stated, “I will not f—— let people threaten and mock me all day and not go f—— do something about it… I’ll do time about it today.”
The victims added that they are unsure what sparked the email, but they suspect that Liberto suffers from a previously undiagnosed mental illness.
Liberto was charged with Commission of Act of Terrorism and his bond is set at $200,100. He was set to appear in court March 24. No further records of the proceedings were available at the time of publication.
