CV NEWS FEED // Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was again hospitalized over the weekend and is currently receiving critical care at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (“Walter Reed”) just outside of Washington D.C.
Walter Reed Trauma Medical Director Dr. John Maddox and Director of the Center for Prostate Disease Research Dr. Gregory Chesnut released a joint statement late Sunday addressing Austin’s “health status.” The Department of Defense (DoD) promptly shared the statement.
“Earlier today, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III was transported by his security detail to [Walter Reed] to be seen for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue,” noted the two doctors. “Tonight, after a series of tests and evaluations, the Secretary was admitted into the critical care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for supportive care and close monitoring.”
Maddox and Chestnut specified that at the time of the statement it was “not clear how long Secretary Austin will remain hospitalized.”
The doctors added that despite Austin’s “current bladder issue,” he is still expected to make a full recovery.
“His cancer prognosis remains excellent,” they emphasized.

CNBC reported Monday that following the Pentagon chief’s hospitalization he “canceled a trip to Brussels this week where he was set to attend meetings related to Ukraine’s defense and NATO.”
“The meeting on Ukraine will instead be held virtually,” CNBC clarified. “The Pentagon declined to confirm the status of the NATO meeting.”
CNBC pointed out that the “change of plans comes during a week when Congress is trying to pass a bill for Ukraine aid.”
The Daily Wire indicated that this “news is the latest wrinkle in a health controversy that began last month over [Austin’s] secretive hospitalization for complications following a procedure to treat prostate cancer.”

CatholicVote reported January 9 that Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-MT, “introduced articles of impeachment against Austin” days after critics began to characterize one of Austin’s previous hospital stays as “secretive.”
‘[D]ishonesty seems to be a repeated pattern for the Secretary as he once again lied to our military and the American people about his health last week,” Rosendale stated while introducing the impeachment articles.
According to a POLITICO report from early January, the DoD “did not tell President Joe Biden and other top officials about Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization for three days.”
“Neither the Pentagon nor Austin has provided any details about why he was in the hospital or what medical procedure he had,” USA Today noted a few days later:
The White House promised on President Joe Biden’s first day in office that the new administration would bring transparency and trust back to government.
But the secrecy surrounding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization is casting doubt on whether the administration is living up to that promise.
Again from CatholicVote:
Although the secretary is a self-professed Catholic, the Department of Defense has consistently supported pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ policies under his leadership.
Austin oversaw the implementation of the Pentagon’s current policy authorizing the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for female service members’ abortions. Pro-life Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-AL, protested this policy for nearly ten
