Day 1: St. Thomas Aquinas Novena

Meditation & Reflection
St. Thomas Aquinas, born in 1225, was gifted with an extraordinary intellect from a young age. Yet he never relied on his natural talents alone. He understood that true wisdom comes from God, the Source of all light. As a young Dominican friar, he devoted himself to study, but always preceded his work with prayer, knowing that knowledge without grace is incomplete.

He famously said that he learned more from the crucifix than from all his books. His life teaches us that the pursuit of truth — whether in theology, philosophy, science, or daily life — must be rooted in humility and love for God. In an age where faith and reason are often seen as opposed, St. Thomas showed they are harmonious: reason illuminates faith, and faith perfects reason.

Today, on this first day, reflect: Where do I seek wisdom? Do I turn to God in prayer before my studies, decisions, or challenges? Ask St. Thomas to intercede so that your mind may be enlightened, your heart drawn to truth, and your life oriented toward God’s glory.

Pray Day 1

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Sweet Jesus, Body and Blood most Holy, be the delight and pleasure of my soul, my strength and salvation in all temptations, my joy and peace in every trial, my light and guide in every word and deed, and my final protector in death. Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.

Amen

(Mention your request here…)

Say 1: Our Father…  Say 1: Hail Mary… Say 1: Glory Be…
