Day 9: Daniel Fast 2026

Scripture Reading (Daniel 9:3-4, 17-19 – from the NABRE)

“So I turned to the Lord God to seek help, in prayer and petition, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes… ‘Now, our God, hear the prayer and petition of your servant… Open your eyes and look upon our desolation… We do not present our petitions before you because of our just deeds, but because of your great mercy.’”

Meditation & Reflection

On this ninth day of your Daniel Fast, you may already feel the physical simplicity of vegetables, fruits, grains, and water drawing your attention inward. Just as Daniel turned from the king’s rich foods to humble himself before God, you are invited today to examine your heart with honesty.

Daniel did not fast out of pride or to earn God’s favor through “just deeds.” He came in total humility, confessing the sins of his people (and his own part in them), and relying solely on God’s mercy. This is the heart of Catholic fasting: not a performance, but a loving surrender that makes space for grace. In the midst of your fast, ask yourself:

  • Where have I fallen short in love toward God and neighbor?
  • What “rich foods” of the world (pride, distraction, unforgiveness, or attachments) am I still clinging to?
  • How can I, like Daniel, intercede for others—my family, the Church, the world—with greater trust?

Remember the promise from the angel Gabriel: even as Daniel began to pray, heaven responded (Daniel 9:23). Your prayers are heard from the first day. Persevere in hope.

Our Lady, who pondered God’s word in her heart (Luke 2:19), walks with you—her gentle intercession helps us stay humble and open to mercy.Let this day deepen your trust: God is not slow to answer; He is drawing you closer.

Prayer (Including Rosary Intention)Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

Heavenly Father,
You are rich in mercy and slow to anger. On this Day 9 of my Daniel Fast, I come before You like Your servant Daniel—with fasting, prayer, and a humble heart. I confess my sins and the sins of Your people. Forgive us, Lord, not because we deserve it, but because of Your great compassion.

Help me to turn away from worldly comforts and fix my eyes on You. Strengthen me to persevere in this fast, that my body may be disciplined and my soul may hunger more for Your presence. Grant me the grace of true repentance, and open my ears to hear Your voice speaking mercy and guidance.

I entrust all my intentions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Today, I offer the Sorrowful Mysteries (or at least one decade) for deeper conversion, for the healing of families, and for the Church in these challenging times. May the sorrow of Jesus and Mary transform my own struggles into grace.Lord, You heard Daniel from the first day he set his heart to seek You. Hear me now. Let Your light shine in my life and through me to others.

May this fast bear fruit in holiness, peace, and love.I ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

(Continue with your personal intentions, then close with the St. Michael Prayer or a simple act of trust: “Jesus, I trust in You.”)

May the Lord bless and keep you as you journey deeper into His heart. Keep going—you are not alone!
