Prayer of the Day – Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Collect Prayer (from the Roman Missal):
Attend to the pleas of your people with heavenly care, O Lord, we pray, that they may see what must be done and gain strength to do what they have seen. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Key Scripture Reflection – “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mark 1:17)
In today’s Gospel (Mark 1:14-20), Jesus bursts onto the scene proclaiming, “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel!” He immediately calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John from their fishing nets to follow Him. They leave everything at once and become fishers of men.

Like Hannah in the first reading, who pours out her soul in prayer amid sorrow, we too are invited to bring our deepest needs to God. The disciples’ swift response shows us that following Jesus means letting go of the familiar and trusting His call. In Ordinary Time, God calls us daily—not dramatically, but steadily—to deeper faith, service, and love.

Prayer Focus: Lord Jesus, as You called the first disciples by the sea, call me today. Help me repent, believe, and follow You without delay. Strengthen me in this new season of Ordinary Time to live as Your disciple. Through the intercession of Mary, our model of fiat, grant me the grace to say “yes” to Your will. Amen.

Say 1 Our Father… 1 Hail Mary… Glory Be…
