Saint of the Day: St. Willibrord

Feast Day: November 7
Patron Saint of: the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and missionary work

About St. Willibrord
St. Willibrord, known as the “Apostle to the Frisians,” was born in Northumbria, England, around the year 658. From a young age, he devoted himself to the service of God, studying under St. Egbert and later becoming a Benedictine monk.

Filled with missionary zeal, Willibrord set out to bring the Gospel to the pagan peoples of northern Europe. He traveled to what is now the Netherlands and Luxembourg, where he preached the faith, built churches, and established monasteries. His mission work was blessed by Pope Sergius I, who consecrated him as the first Bishop of Utrecht in 695.

Through tireless effort, prayer, and humility, St. Willibrord brought countless souls to Christ and laid the foundations for Christianity in the region. He died peacefully in 739 after more than 50 years of missionary service.

Prayer:
O God, who called St. Willibrord to bring Your Gospel to distant lands, grant that through his prayers we may share the light of Christ wherever we are. Amen.
