Saint of the Day: Saint Cosmas and Damian

Feast Day: September 26

Saints Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers and physicians in Syria during the 3rd century. Known as the “Unmercenary Physicians,” they practiced medicine without charging money, offering their healing services freely as a witness to Christ’s love. Their charity and skill drew many to the Christian faith.

During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, Cosmas and Damian were arrested for refusing to renounce their faith. Despite torture, they remained steadfast, and tradition says they were martyred around the year 303.

They are honored as patron saints of doctors, pharmacists, and all who work in the healing arts. Their lives remind us of the call to use our gifts not for self-gain but for the service of God and neighbor.

Prayer

Saints Cosmas and Damian, physicians of mercy, pray for us, that we may use our talents to serve others with love and faithfulness.
