About St. Charbel Makhlouf

St. Charbel Makhlouf was born in 1828 in a small village in the mountains of Lebanon. From a young age, he felt called to a life of prayer, silence, and deep union with God. He became a monk of the Maronite Catholic Church, which is in full communion with Rome, and was ordained a priest.

Sharbel lived as a hermit for over 20 years, dedicating himself completely to the Holy Eucharist, Scripture, and prayer. His life was one of profound humility and simplicity, and he was known for his holiness even before his death in 1898.

After his passing, many miracles were attributed to his intercession, especially healings of the sick. His tomb became a place of pilgrimage, and his body was found incorrupt for many years.

St. Charbel’s life reminds us that holiness is possible through silence, sacrifice, and a heart fixed on God.

Prayer to St. Charbel

O St. Sharbel,
you lived a hidden life of prayer and union with Christ.
Intercede for us, that we may seek God above all things
and find healing, peace, and grace through your prayers.
Amen.

St. Charbel Makhlouf, pray for us!
