Vatican charity offers daily meditations between Easter and Feast of the Sacred Heart

CV NEWS FEED // A Vatican-affiliated charity is inviting Catholics around the world to set aside time each day for spiritual reflection during the weeks between Easter and the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) is offering daily meditations beginning April 21, Easter Monday, and continuing through June 27, the feast of the Sacred Heart, according to an emailed news release from the organization.

The initiative is rooted in Pope Francis’ encyclical Dilexi Nos (“He loved us”), in which he calls on the faithful and those of goodwill to renew their encounter with the love of Christ expressed in His Sacred Heart.

CNEWA described the series as an opportunity to “make room for the Heart of Jesus,” by stepping into quiet prayer and reflection each day with the help of selections from Pope Francis’ encyclical.

As CNEWA explains on its website, devotion to the Sacred Heart offers an antidote to a world “filled with fear, anger and violence.” The reflections are meant to help Catholics “rediscover the radical love at the heart of the Gospel.”

“As we contemplate the heart of Christ, the incarnate synthesis of the Gospel,” the Pope wrote in Dilexi Nos, “we can, following the example of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, ‘place heartfelt trust not in ourselves but in the infinite mercy of a God who loves us unconditionally and has already given us everything in the cross of Jesus Christ.’”

Participation details and registration are available here.
